We're building Crypto Identity Learn — a mobile app that teaches blockchain and cryptocurrency fundamentals, built by the same team building Crypto Identity itself. It's currently in development for iOS and Android, and we wanted to share what it is and why we're building it.
Crypto Identity's own product — a single, anonymous username for receiving cryptocurrency on Ethereum — is still being built. Rather than leave that time unused, we're extending this website's educational mission to mobile: bite-sized lessons on the same fundamentals we've been writing about here, in a format built for a few minutes on a commute rather than a full article.
Most crypto education apps today fall into one of two camps: exchange-run "learn and earn" programs that pay out tokens but tend to get discontinued or feel biased toward their own coin, or web-based courses that don't work well as bite-sized mobile lessons. We wanted something else — and specifically, an app that treats privacy and self-custody as part of the curriculum, not an afterthought, since that's the whole point of the product it's building toward.
There's no email, no phone number, and no account in the traditional sense. On first launch, you pick a permanent anonymous username, and that's it — that's your identity in the app. Because there's no email to reset a password with, you get a short recovery phrase instead, similar to how a crypto wallet backs up a seed phrase, just simpler: a handful of everyday words, shown once, yours to keep safe.
Lessons are organized into tracks, starting with the basics — what a blockchain actually is, why decentralization matters, and the reasoning behind Bitcoin's original design — and building toward the same territory as our published research: real-world applications, and the open issues the field is still working through. Finishing a lesson and its quiz earns XP and builds a streak, with badges along the way — no crypto payouts, just genuine progress you can see.
We're actively building out the rest of the curriculum and preparing for submission to the App Store and Google Play. Once the app is live, we'll update this post with download links. In the meantime, keep an eye on the blog for more on what we're learning along the way.
